So You have a SmartBoard in your Room- Now What? 

What can you do with it?

How can it Help your students?


 


 


 




 

Cognitive research has shown that learning is most effective when four fundamental characteristics are present:

(1) active engagement,

(2) participation in groups,

(3) frequent interaction and feedback, and

(4) connections to real-world contexts

(Roschelle, Pea, Hoadley, Gordin, & Means, 2000).

Engaging Students through their different learning Styles




 

Verbal/ Linguistic - learnig by listening  and Linguistic - working with words



  • If you use this style, you find it easy to express yourself, both in writing and verbally.


  • You prefer using words, both in speech and writing

 

Logical/ Mathmatical - you like using your brain for logical and mathematical reasoning



  • You prefer using logic, reasoning and systems

 

Physical/Bodily-Kinesthetic - If the physical style is more like you, it’s likely that you use your body and sense of touch to learn about the world around you



  • You prefer using your body, hands and sense of touch

 

Aural/Musical/ Auditory - If you use the aural style, you like to work with sound and music.



  •  You prefer using sound and music.

 

Personal



  • Social/ Interpersonal  - If you have a strong social style, you communicate well with people, both verbally and non-verbally 


  • You prefer to learn in groups or with other people.

 




  • Solitary/ Intrapersonal  - if you have an intrapersonal learning style


  • you are more private, introspective and independent. You can concentrate well, focusing your thoughts and feelings on your current topic. You are aware of your own thinking, and you may analyze the different ways you think and feel.


  • You prefer to work alone and use self-study 

 

Spacial/ Visual  - If you use the visual style, you prefer using images, pictures, colors, and maps to organize information and communicate with others.



  • You can easily visualize objects, plans and outcomes in your mind’s eye.


  • You prefer using pictures, images, and spatial understanding.

How does the SMART Board interactive whiteboard work? 


 

 

 

 

 

 



  • Smartboard is connected to a computer by a USB cable or wireless conection - green ligt on lower right side when everything is connected


  • The data projector is connected to the computer by a VGA cable

 

 

 

  

 


You can use your finger or a pen to write. Your finger is your mouse becasue the screen is touch senstive. Written text can be converted to text.  

The SMART Pen Tray is connected to the SmartBoard by a cable that tells the board what item ( coloured pen or eraser) has been last selected from the tray 


The On-Screen Keyboard can be activated by pressing the key on the pen tray that has the keyboard symbol on it. 


The Right Mouse function is selected when pressing the button on the pen tray beside the keyboard button.


Orienting your SMART Board interactive whiteboard is accessed by pressing the keyboard and mouse button on the pen tray together. 


The Help button


The Ready Light  is on the rightside of the board near the bottom. The red or orange light means the board is not connectted. A flashng green ligth means that there is a problem wiotrth the conenction. The solid green light means everything is operating correctly. 


When you pick up Writing Pen or select the Pen from the Notebook software you can save your notes

Floating Tool bar allows you to acess item that may be on the tool bar in Notebook software when you are not using the software but exploring the Internet or using other software. Examples like the Screen Shade, Magnifying glass, Spot Ligth, highlite pens etc...
